EPA 1986

23rd May, 1986, An Act to provide for the protection and improvement of environment and for matters connected there with the decisions were taken at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held at Stockholm in June, 1972, in which India participated, to take appropriate steps for the protection and improvement of human environment.
BE it enacted by Parliament in the Thirty-seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:-
(1) This Act may be called the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
(2) It extends to the whole of India.
(3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint and different dates may be appointed for different provisions of this Act and for different areas.
(4) "Environment" includes water, air and land and the inter- relationship which exists among and between water, air and land, and human beings, other living creatures, plants, micro-organism and property. Delivering or handling over of E-waste to any unauthorized agency is a criminal offence under Government Environment Protection Act (EPA)-1986. The notification if E-waste rules has already come into force with effect from 1st May 2012 in State Pollution Control Board.
